Karen J. Tenenbaum

An attorney for 30 years, Karen founded Tenenbaum Law, P.C., providing legal counsel to individuals and businesses facing IRS and New York State tax problems. Karen and her team have successfully represented clients in matters including Federal and State Audits, IRS Appeals and NYS Conciliation Conferences, Federal and NYS Collection Issues, including Liens, Levies, Warrants and Seizures, Offers in Compromise, Installment Agreements, Responsible Officer Assessments, NYS Residency Audits, and NYS Voluntary Disclosures.

Karen is a frequent speaker on IRS and NYS tax issues for numerous professional groups on topics such as New York State Residency, IRS and NYS Collections, and more. Karen's knowledge and leadership have established her as a leading tax attorney in the NY area. Karen was selected by her peers for inclusion in the 2014 edition of New York Super Lawyers as a practitioner in Tax Law. Only 5 percent of the lawyers in each state are named for inclusion in the Super Lawyers list.

Karen is the past chair of the Nassau County Bar Association Tax Law Committee and a past executive board member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Nassau Chapter. She is the recipient of the Achievers’ Award from the Long Island Center for Business & Professional Women and the Samuel B. Traum Achievement Award from the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Nassau Chapter. She was recently named a Top Ten Legal Eagle by Long Island Pulse Magazine, Most Impressive Case Victory, regarding a residency matter, and as among the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business in 2014 and 2016 by Long Island Business News. Karen was named one of Legal Leaders' Long Island Top Rated Lawyers of 2015 as well as one of Super Lawyers' 2015 Top Women Attorneys in the New York Metro area. Karen was quoted in the Bloomberg Business article How New York Hunts Down Tax Refugees. The article was included in an edition of the American Institute of CPA's 'CPA Letter Daily' newsletter. She was also quoted in Money Magazine's article Retire - A Snowbird Flight PlanKaren was presented the 2015 Leadership in Law Award by Long Island Business News and was a finalist for the 2015 SmartCEO CPA & ESQ Award. SmartCEO has also awarded Karen with the 2016 Long Island Future 50 Award, which is the most anticipated SmartCEO awards program of the year. Karen was selected as a 2016 New York Metro Super Lawyer as well as a 2016 Judge Gail Prudenti Top Women in Law Award recipient. The New York Law Journal has also listed Tenenbaum Law, P.C. as a top women-owned firm in New York for 2016.

Karen received her LL.M. (Taxation) from New York University School of Law and her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. Karen is admitted to the State Bar of New York and to the U.S. Tax Court. Karen is also a Certified Public Accountant.
